Nascar, Fast Car

B and I made it through the weekend with little sleep and no hydration, but at least we made it! March Madness has been a blast for B and me this year. Last year we were in the middle of 14hr days, six days a week during March, so we were unable to fully enjoy the splendor of the NCAA tournament; however this year we have been fully engaged. We tend to make up some sort of game to play while watching, so Friday night was “Good Play – Good Shot”. For every good play, we had to take a shot of Three Olives, Berry, washed down with Sparks. We had a blast and woke up to the credit card lying out beside the computer… UHHH OHHH!?!?!

In our March Madness glory, we had invited Griff (B’s best friend from VA Beach) to attend the Martinsville Race with us and bought the tickets that night.

Griff came up Saturday afternoon and brought his precious puppy Keanu (“the coolness” in Hawaiian – Griff is an engineer in the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii for three years).

The cool Keanu...
B and I went ice skating that night, where B was truly a champ if he could avoid showing too much crack (to which the little kids responded with “Ewwwww!”).

B doing his thing...

I put together a little spread and we watched the rest of the Elite Eight games that night while downing Margaritas.

The El Toro that took us down...
Sunday we woke to a nice hangover and enough adrenaline for race to get up and get moving. I decided “my driver” would be the one with the cheapest, tackiest t-shirt, so I am now a Jeff Gordon fan. Actually I hate NASCAR, but I had a great time.

That is my B getting ready to go for a run above. I think he loves me.

What a day. B got up to go put in some extra hours at the shop, so I decided the hit the library and finally get my card and some books. I got yelled at for being too loud, but I was successful with a new card, guilty pleasure (Patricia Cornwell), GMAT study guide, Org. Gardening book for B, and a pseudo American history book.

After that I hit the market for some bison ground meat, boston butt, NY Strip, cubed steak, hot Italian sausage, lamb shanks, and orange/pineapple goat cheese from grass fed, organic farms. I also managed to buy fresh farm eggs, carrots, squash, tomatoes, Pink Lady apples, tangerines, a grapefruit, onions, green peppers, potatoes, and garlic.

Once B came home we went to the Natural Foods store for whole wheat, wheat gluten, yeast, cheeses, granola, and trail mix. Then into some random woods B had found so we could cut down some bamboo (renewable!) for bean supports in our garden. Finally we went to the garden to cut down a tree that was shading it.

B in another tree cutting down branches that were hitting the house...

Still in the tree... hey, at least he has on his safety glasses!

B let me cut off some of the branches...

We decided to make homemade pizza... I was in charge of the sauce and B has the crust.
It turned out amazing... although the crust didn't rise as expected. 100% ORGANIC and VIRGINIAN! It looks a little funny, but it was sooo good. Spinach, tomatoes, onions, feta, mozzerella, and garlic cheddar cheese!

Patty's & Pods

I don’t really have a purpose in mind for this post. I just feel it necessary to post to keep me from slacking. I have also added a movie review section – not that I have the greatest movie taste, but if you find yourself in a town like Lynchburg, VA at least you will have some recommendations.

As for life in Lynchburg, we have a new garden. Actually the woman that Billy does a lot of work for on her rental houses has given us a plot of land on one of her properties to start an organic garden. Therefore we have started our pods in the apartment. B is super excited about his garden.

We have also decided to support all the local farmers, so while our grocery bill has increased, the locals are grateful for our support and our bodies are thanking us for eating more naturally. We can just about take care of our needs at the market every Saturday, but we do need to make one trip to the Fresh Air Natural Foods for some snacks and miscellaneous items.

Brenda Cox, if you are reading this, I desperately need to know how your brother makes those pizzas and baked spaghetti on his site [for those of you reading this… check the foods and the pottery here].

B and I celebrated St. Patty’s Day in our festive T-shirts; although we did decided to go with Canadian Vodka as opposed to Irish Beer… is that bad?

Wise sayings often fall on barren ground....

I decided when I change my quotes, I want to save them, so they will just be a seperate post from now on.

"You can only find truth if you seek it for yourself, for the truths of history are the truths of others. But truth is like a mirage in the desert. For us, the task is not to chase truth but to create it. Truth is a stance, an act of power that you bring to all your actions. Truth is what the person of knowledge brings to every moment." ~Alberto Villoldo, Ph.D.

Piano Man -n- Tiny Dancer

I am slacking on the blogging big time, I know. No updates on HAAAQUET or quotes or bitching... geez.

I do have SNOW!!! We got 9 inches in Lynchburg and during the blizzard [yeah, I said blizzard, don't hate because you live in a foot of snow all through the winter] between 7pm and 12am, B and I were driving back to Lynchburg. It was a weeeee bit scary.

Unlike Charlotte, after 9 inches, AREVA wasn't closed!!!

We spent this weekend in Charlotte for the Elton / Billy concert, and it was awesome! Every time I attend a concert indoors, I always swear to myself that I will pay the extra money to sit closer, and yet I never do. I WILL NOT SIT IN THE NOSEBLEED AGAIN... if the concert is indoors it is worth every penny to be up close. I must remember this.

Boozin in the car before dinner/concert...

We ate at this little restaurant - I had a fabulous seared tuna salad...

The infamous Sprite bottle made its way into the concert...

Below is this bomb ass couple that sang and danced their hearts out [maybe drank their little hearts out too], but they were my favorites.

Anyway, I have to admit that Billy outdid Elton, but I will always be a hard core fan of both. They are just nasty on that piano.

If you have time to read my little blog, please take an extra moment to read the article Butch sent me.

This is an article by Thomas Friedman, author of Hot Flat and Crowded (among
many others). This isn’t from the book but it does bring together the theme
quite well. I think he’s right.
